Things you need to know about Vasectomy
There are many
misconceptions about vasectomy as a family planning method. We are here to
dispel them on Family Planning Friday discussion today #FPFriday
During a vasectomy
procedure, a trained provider performs a procedure that blocks the tubes
carrying sperm from the testicles. The testicles remain in place
Here are other things you
need to know about vasectomy
-Vasectomy is safe for
men. It does not cause any diseases later in life
-A man is just as
sexually active after vasectomy as before
-Vasectomy does not cause
cancer
-It does not cause a man
to grow fat or become weak, less masculine or less productive
-Vasectomy does not cause
cancer
Men have the same sex
drive after vasectomy as they had before.
A vasectomy does not
remove the testicles and does not affect sexual function. A man’s erection is
as hard, lasts as long and he ejaculates as he did before.
Vasectomies can be
reversed in a procedure called a Vasovasostomy.
However, it is highly
dependent on the technique used for the vasectomy.
After a successful
vasectomy reversal, sperm are again present in the semen, and you may be able
to get your partner pregnant.
Note that this isn’t
always successful.
Knowing this, would you
consider vasectomy if you are done having children?
