Family Planning Media Advocacy Working Group (FPMAWG), was set up in January 2018, by Pathfinder International as a media advocacy group to promote a balanced family life as part of efforts towards advancing nation building visited the Leadership Head Office and met with the

The group objectives center on increasing the visibility of FP stories which in turns will galvanize support for the promotion of quality family life, which is why the group visited Leadership Lagos Office and met with Mr Dele Fanimo, Chief Operating Officer of Leadership Newspaper . In a speech delivered by the group during the advocacy visit the group acknowlege the commitment of the Government on Family Planning (FP) so far and how it is still an issue which the present governments at the Federal and state levels are committed to the provision of free FP services to the entire women of child-bearing age in the country.
The group also highlighted  the benefits  that can be reaped from people planning their family.

" A well-spaced family will ensure women are better able to contribute to the economic activities in the homes, fathers are able to provide adequately for the family size they can afford to take care of from their earnings"

The group also clearly states that cultural barriers, myths, misconceptions, providers bias, unavailability of sufficient consumables to effectively carry out procedures and lack of support for FP services by men are some of the stumbling blocks to FP uptake in the country.

Family Planning will  improve our nation’s economy and most importantly, reduce the rate at which our women are dying every day due to complications associated with child bearing.

The Chief Operating Officer, Leadership Newspapers, Mr Dele Fanimo  welcomes the group and promised his support in promoting FP visibility in the news as he his conscious of the benefits to the society at large. He said, “The Nigerian population is 198 million and this figure has an implication on the country in all aspects of the economy. A quarter of this population is almost twice the population of the Republic of Benin. The centre of this is uncontrolled birth.

He encouraged the group to also take the Family planning message to local communities and not limit it to people who have access to the media only.
